Having had a look at plenty of the big hitters at the T20 World Cup so far, attention turns to South Africa, who will be looking to get off to a winning start against associate cricketing nation Canada.
On paper, the Proteas couldn’t have asked for a better first fixture, as they look to get to grips with conditions in India, and their hefty warm-up loss to the hosts last time out should be a distant memory here.
Suffering a painful defeat in the 2024 T20 World Cup final is sure to still rankle with the majority of this South African squad, and they are seen in many quarters as a side capable of going all the way this time around.
There is no pressure on Canada here, who will be looking to play their part, but South Africa start as heavy favourites at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, on Monday, 9th February 2026.

South Africa vs. Canada – T20 World Cup Predictions
Best Bet
Backing South Africa for the win here feels like an obvious prediction, but Aiden Markram is key to their tournament hopes at the top of the order, and he will be desperate to continue his good form.
A lot will hinge on the toss, with South Africa sure to want to bat second and chase down any total the Canadians post, but the Maple Leafers may well fancy putting the Proteas in.
While that element is down to the toss of a coin, the result looks to be pretty much a formality for South Africa, and Aiden Markram will be chasing a statement score from the off, whether he bats first or second.
Same Game Multi
Finding niches in such a one-sided contest could be tricky, but the unique pace and angle of Marco Jansen could prove to be the undoing of this Canadian batting lineup.
Jansen seems to have been around for years, but he is still only 25 years old, and his skills with the ball in hand continue to develop.
His angle as a left-hander is hard to score off, and with pace and bounce normally on offer in Ahmedabad, he could rough up a few Canadian batters.
The result feels like a practical formality, with South Africa operating in a different cricketing sphere to Canada, and their opening partnership of Aiden Markram and Quinton de Kock feels like one of the best in the tournament.
Best Value Bet
Veteran all-rounder Saad Bin Safar has been around the block in his cricketing career, but he continues to represent Canada with aplomb.
His variations should prove very tricky for the South African batters, and he looks to suffocate the opposition into playing false shots in order to take his wickets.
It feels unlikely that his contributions with the ball in hand will be enough to see Canada threaten South Africa here, but Saad Bin Safar looks decent value to take the most Canadian wickets in this one.
